Maa Tripura Sundari is the third Mahavidya of Maa Shakti. She is also the GURU of Mercury.Tripura Sundari is the ultimate, primordial Shakti, the light of manifestation. She, the pile of letters of the alphabet, gave birth to the three worlds. At dissolution, She is the abode of all tattvas, while being Herself. Tripura Sundari is also named “Rajarajeshvari”, or the “governess of the whole creation”, because She gives the “orders of ruling” the macrocosm.Maa Tripura Sundari is alsonamed “Lalita”, because she is considered the most beautiful of deities and represents the supreme ecstatic bliss, as the source of any other wonderful perception. One of the most famous representations of the Great Cosmic Wisdom, Tripura Sundari is a 16 years old girl. This anthropomorphic vision of the goddess is known as “Shodasi” (meaning “sixteen”) or Bala (meaning “young girl”). Tripura Sundari is the essence of the beauty of God and the third Great Cosmic Wisdom, known under the name of Tripura Sundari or Shrividya Tripura. The Goddess manifests itself, generally speaking, through three fundamental aspects of the Divinity, which may be extended to the level of the whole creation. From an etymological point of view, “tri” means Three, and “pura” means city, or citadel. Thus Tripura may be translated as “the one comprising of all three citadels”, referring to the three worlds or the gigantic spheres of God’s creation: the physical world, the astral world and the causal world.
Tripura Sundari is the bright, gigantic sphere of divine consciousness that pervades all experiences of the three worlds of Creation, but at the same time transcends them completely. The first “city-citadel” of the goddess is the state of awakening, in which the human being experiences various states of spirit, mainly through the five senses.
